The story thus far...

My son Riley was born on October 18th.  Since then I have had two and a half months of Fatherhood that I have to write about.  My first thoughts in this vein were along the lines of "That tiny, itty bitty creature is mine...not like a pet is mine, but part of me, from me and will be with me from this point forward."  To be fair, I honestly do not know what I was thinking at the time and more likely resembled "Brains!!!"

Since he was born I have changed a lot more diapers, I have burped him, fed him and played with him.  He helps me destroy Tokyo when I use him as a Godzilla toy.  He smiles and coos at me and I already know that I have no chance to not love him.  I am his every bit as much as he is mine.  When he cries, my heart breaks and I know that I will do anything to get him to stop.

The first few weeks of being a new parent can be extremely stressful.  You will not get a full night of sleep, even if you try.  You will still have to maintain your home, you will have to go back to work, you will have to be able to keep your calm and vent it in a good way.  For me, I have video games, role playing games, writing and reading and other geeky stuff.  My wife and I roleplay with friends, and with Riley right there with us.  Friends will save your life, we were lucky to have several who are also having children around the same time as us.

This was very unorganized, I promise to make it more organized in the future.

Thank you.

Introduction

My name is Joseph Kaplan and I am a brand new father.  I have had no previous experience in child care, I changed only 1 diaper in my life before my son, Riley, was born.  This blog will be my adventures in fatherhood, I will tell all that I am thinking, any anecdotes and funny stories and anything else I can think of to share.  Periodically I will try to wrap up my thoughts into advice for others who are new to fatherhood.
